How this tool works

What it does

Reports actual file size, dimensions, pixel count, megapixels and raw RGBA memory.

Not a predictor

Shows the uploaded size, not an estimated compressed-output size.

Decode fallback

If the image will not decode, size and type are still reported.

Privacy

The file is measured in your browser; nothing is uploaded.

Image File Size Calculator in your browser

Image File Size Calculator reports the actual size of an uploaded image file in bytes, along with its dimensions, pixel count, megapixels and the raw RGBA memory it occupies once decoded. It reports the real uploaded size — it does not predict a compressed-output size.

Upload any image and the tool reads its file size directly and decodes it to measure width, height and pixel count, then derives megapixels, raw in-memory size and the average stored bytes per pixel.

Nothing is uploaded; the file is measured in your browser and the figures can be downloaded as a text report.

How to use Image File Size Calculator

  1. Upload an image into Image File Size Calculator by clicking, pressing Enter, or dragging a file in.
  2. Click Process to read the file size and decode its dimensions.
  3. Review the byte size, pixel count, megapixels and raw memory estimate.
  4. Download the figures as a text report.

Why use Image File Size Calculator

Actual file size

Reports the real uploaded byte size, not a guess at a compressed output.

Memory estimate

Shows the raw RGBA memory (width × height × 4) the image uses when decoded.

Pixel maths

Gives pixel count, megapixels and stored bytes per pixel.

Private & local

The file is measured in your browser; nothing is uploaded.

Common uses for Image File Size Calculator

Budget assets

Check exact file sizes when staying under an upload or email limit.

Memory planning

Estimate the decoded RAM a large image will need.

Megapixel checks

Confirm a camera or export's megapixel count quickly.

Compression sanity

Compare stored bytes per pixel across files.

Frequently asked questions

Does Image File Size Calculator predict the compressed file size?

No. It reports the actual size of the file you uploaded, plus the raw RGBA memory it uses when decoded. It does not estimate the size after re-compression at a given quality.

What is the raw RGBA memory figure in Image File Size Calculator?

It is width × height × 4 bytes — the uncompressed memory the image occupies once decoded into pixels, which is usually far larger than the stored file.

Does Image File Size Calculator show megapixels?

Yes. It multiplies width by height and divides by one million, so a 4000 × 3000 image is reported as 12 MP.

What if Image File Size Calculator cannot decode my file?

It still reports the file size and type from the bytes; only the dimension-derived figures are skipped if the browser cannot decode the image.

Is my image uploaded to calculate its size?

No. The file is measured and decoded in your browser; nothing is sent to a server.
